Guest sketchbook
My friend Sara came to visit me last year around this time, shortly after returning from a residency in Colombia. She'd been busy drawing in her sketchbook while she was there, and showed me the results. Last summer I asked her about it again, knowing she was no longer keeping a blog, and hadn't posted the work anywhere. She said I could post it myself if I wanted, so I took these pictures, and they've been languishing on my hardrive ever since. I don't know if she'll keep drawing comics or not. She's doing video and puppetry and animation and singing pop songs as a statue. So she's busy with other stuff. It's all very much worth a look (especially this amazing video she made for Evan Hydzik). But so are her drawings. So I'm finally getting around to posting them.

Notes from Gatsby, heard on the street, a guy, Rage of Poseidon Water Adventures

I was supposed to do a reading last Thursday with Joe Meno for the release of the paperback edition of his book Demons in the Spring (a book of short stories each of which was illustrated by a different artist, one of whom was me). But the vagaries of life (specifically, bringing it into the world) forced him to postpone. Which was a good thing for me. I had a story, the beginning of which you can see below, but I wasn't quite settled on visuals. When the event gets rescheduled come find out what I come up with.

More Notable Happenings in the Press
The current issue of The Believer features 14 small drawings I did from items in my collection of broken and discarded toys. The drawings are scattered throughout the magazine in the margins. They also printed three different inside covers, each featuring a different painting of mine. Below are a few of the drawings.

The broken and discarded toys themselves are slated to appear in a show at Finestra Art Space in Chicago in mid February.
