View From a Train

The first two pictures here are not technically from a train, but from a tram: the one that goes up Cannon Mountain in Franconia, New Hampshire. The photographs that follow are from a train trip from Northern New Hampshire down to New York City last June.

I'm particularly struck by the railroad signal tower with the highway overpass built over it. Most government planners would have simply had the building demolished.

I love sitting by the window of a train and seeing everything from a completely different perspective. I love the feeling of a railroad separating itself from a highway. There is a train on Vancouver Island that takes you through trestles in the forest at the very top of the trees.
