More Cool S#*% at Autoptic

This just in: We're putting together a screening of experimental animation with Lilli Carre and Alexander Stewart's EYEWORKS, in conjunction with SALTWATER WEATHER, a shadow puppet play by Sara Drake and Pup House.

This is not okay

If I was in Chicago I would go to this:

Sonnenzimmer is having a little musical shindig and studio sale at their place tomorrow, Sunday the 14th (Vive la Liberte!) during the day. Which makes this as good a time as any to also mention that their painting and printmaking show at Lula (with Jordan Martins) is also up and is 110% awesome. So what you should probably do is go to both.

Marijpol

From what I can tell from their French language site, Le Monte en L'air is having a show of the work of German cartoonist Marijpol. If you can go, you should. Beautiful stuff. I met her last Winter in Luzern, Switzerland and was lucky enough to catch her work there. It's some of my favorite drawing of the present moment. Wish I could read her work in English...

Farewell to Kim Thompson

Kim helped me move The End #1 and it's recent expansion through production, and he was always easygoing, attentive and a pleasure to work with. But I never knew him much more than that. Still, it feels like one of the quiet giants of the medium, is gone. Someone on who's shoulders I've been standing all this time and not even hardly realizing it. My heart goes out to the folks at Fantagraphics who knew him best and will miss him the most. Gary's piece at the Fanta Blog is very much worth reading. I expect more rememberances will follow. Thanks, Kim, for making comics richer.

Autoptic Poster

Just finished this poster for the Autoptic Festival, which I'm helping organize in Minneapolis, August 18th. Here's the final, followed by some preliminary sketches and one unfinished alternate version.
